As part of our latest display Robert Colquhoun and the Kilmarnock Academy Archives, we asked the school’s S1/2 Archive Display Team to find photographs that would fit into the theme of the display and into the Burns Monument Centre and its collections of local history material.
This photograph is labelled ‘Pose before dancing the Maypole, Kay Park c1920′. The Kay Park was (and is) only a short walk from Kilmarnock Academy, and has been used for school outdoor activities for many years. At that time the park was only around 40 years old; the Burns Monument was standing tall, the original fountain and bandstand stood near the river, and the Reformer’s Monument had its statue of liberty.
We don’t have any names attached to the photograph above. If you recognise anyone in the photograph please do get in touch by emailing . Or pop in to see us – the display is in the Research Room of the Burns Monument Centre, open 9.15 to 4.30 Tuesday – Saturday.
